At TOWIS, positive behaviour and a growth mindset are at the heart of our school community — we grow together through respect, responsibility, and resilience.
Behaviour & Attitude to Learning — Our Approach
At The One World International School Yangon, we believe that how a student behaves — how they treat others, how they approach their learning, and how they carry themselves through the world — matters as much as any examination result.
Character is not a by-product of education at TOWIS. It is one of its central purposes.
Our approach to behaviour is built around three convictions. First, that every student in our school community has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued — every day, without exception. Second, that positive behaviour is something we actively build and celebrate, not just something we correct when it breaks down. And third, that the vast majority of our students, the vast majority of the time, are doing the right thing — and deserve to be recognised for it.

The TOWIS Student Profile
Every student at TOWIS is working towards the same profile — not a profile of grades and examination scores, but a profile of who they are becoming. The TOWIS Student Profile has two dimensions: Positive Behaviours for Learning and Positive Attitudes for Life. Together, they describe the whole person we are developing.
| Confident | Willing to take risks in learning — sharing ideas, attempting difficult problems, and speaking up even when unsure. Confidence grows through trying, not waiting to feel ready. |
| Responsible | Taking ownership of learning — organised, reliable, and accountable. When things go wrong, a responsible student faces it, fixes it, and moves forward. |
| Reflective | Evaluating progress honestly and acting on feedback. The orange box in their book is not a failure — it is the starting point for improvement. Reflective students grow faster than any others. |
| Innovative | Applying creativity and critical thinking to solve problems. Innovation is not only about science and technology — it is about finding a better way in any situation. |
| Engaged | Curious, active participants in every lesson and every learning opportunity — in class, in clubs, in the wider school community, and in the world beyond TOWIS. |
| Respectful | Caring for themselves, others, and the environment. Respect at TOWIS is active — it means speaking with care, listening with attention, and treating every space and person with consideration. |
| Resilient | Persevering through challenges with optimism and courage. Resilience is not the absence of difficulty — it is the decision to keep going when things are hard. It is the most important quality for long-term success. |
| Healthy | Balancing physical, emotional, and mental well-being. A student who looks after themselves — who sleeps, moves, eats, and processes their feelings — is a student who can learn. Well-being is not separate from academic success. It is the foundation of it. |
| Creative | Embracing imagination and exploring new opportunities. Creativity is not only about art — it is about approaching every challenge with an open mind and the courage to think differently. |
| Empathetic | Showing kindness, understanding others, and contributing to the community and the wider world. An empathetic student notices when someone is struggling and acts. They make TOWIS — and the world beyond it — a better place. |
These qualities are not fixed personality traits — they are skills, and like all skills they are learned, practised, and improved. Every student at TOWIS is capable of developing every one of them. We never give up on a student's character any more than we give up on their academic progress.
Recognising Great Behaviour — The Points System
At TOWIS, we believe that catching students doing things right is more powerful than catching them doing things wrong. Our points system is designed first and foremost as a recognition tool — a daily, visible celebration of effort, kindness, engagement, and positive attitude.
| How the Points System Works Every teacher, in every lesson, every day, uses ClassDojo to award points in real time. Points are awarded for: Outstanding effort in class Excellent attitude to learning — trying hard even when it is difficult Acts of kindness, helpfulness, or community contribution Going above and beyond what is expected Representing TOWIS values in any school setting 10 ClassDojo points = 1 Merit Point Merit Points accumulate across the term and determine each student's ACE Behaviour Band. Parents can see their child's points total in real time through the ClassDojo parent app. |
The opportunity to earn points is available to every student, in every lesson, every day. There is no ceiling. A student who has had a difficult week can turn it around by the end of the term. A student who has always found positive recognition hard to reach can get there — and we will support them to do it.
ACE Behaviour Bands — What the Points Mean
| Points | Band | Recognition & What It Means | |
|---|---|---|---|

| 🛩️ | 130–149 | B — Sky Blue | Above expected. Consistently positive, engaged, and enthusiastic. 2 raffle tickets at ACE Day. Next stop: Space Blue. |

Every student starts each term with a clean slate and every opportunity to fly. Green is the expected standard — the floor. Sky Blue is where most of our students land when they put their effort in. Space Blue is there for every student who decides to go further. We have yet to meet a TOWIS student who cannot get there.
